So I should just treat this as a point 'n shoot, Symbian being the OS to this camera that can make phone calls.

With a Lumia 800 on hand, I never thought I'd own 2 Nokia phones at once. Sign of a good comeback from Nokia.

PureView is an amazing technology from Nokia. But I still cant understand the strategy behind introducing it on the dying OS-Symbian.

The idea of using high pixel count that offers lower noise sounds interesting.

Because that is the only OS nokia hjas to showcase this technology.
Perhaps you already forgot, Microsoft decides what get supported by Windows Phone not Nokia!
And it's OBVIOUS that Microsoft couldn't get WP7 ready for such technology (in such a short time) as they have other fish to fry ATM (win8 & WP8).
